The little Fuchsia I've managed to keep alive for several years now is back in bloom, just in time for Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, hosted by the ever-inventive Carol of May Dreams Gardens. We're experiencing unusual warmth here at Squirrelhaven, with highs in the 40sF in recent days (54F/12C yesterday) and lows above freezing. The warmth comes too late for the garden, however, after a low of 9F/-13C with no snow cover last weekend. Consequently, we must look indoors for blooms.
This florist's Cyclamen is a bit of a cheat. I just got it the other night. It had been a decoration on the stage for the girl's Christmas choir concert. The school asked parents to purchase the plants for the decorations, which could be taken home after the concert. My track record with this type of Cyclamen has been uniformly dismal. I'll enjoy it through the holidays, then it will probably need to be euthanized. The Amaryllis is still blooming and has a second bloom stalk that's nearly ready to open.
Outside this morning, I did manage to find one bloom.
Were this unusual weather to hold, there would be snowdrops for Christmas.
However, there's already a change in the weather, and the temperature is beginning to head back down to normal. Now I'm just hoping for a white Christmas.
Happy Bloom Day!

That is pretty good showing for the Midwest in December Barb! I much prefer cyclamen to poinsettias since I can plant them outside after the holidays. I have a dismal track record with poinsettias, even keeping them looking good for a few weeks.
The Cylcamen is so lovely...but I agree, they are nearly impossible to keep going after they bloom :-(
Lovely Fuchsia! I have no luck at all with them. Love that pansy - such determination and spirit in the face of Ole Man Winter!
Happy GBBD!
My garden is almost bereft of blooms also but then it is time to dream of next season and sugarplums...what is a sugarplum?
I'm just stopping by different type of blogs and thought id say hello folks. So greetings from an Amish community in Pennsylvania, and wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year. Richard from Amish Stories
I was suckered into buying a similar cyclamen (white and SUPER fragrant) and I'm just hoping I don't kill it before it finishes blooming. That's my M.O. Fingers crossed for us both! Merry Merry bloom day!
That Fuchsia is darling!!
Happy GBBD :)
I really like the creative way you displayed your images. They look like ready to purchase note cards. Happy GBBD.
Ah, that's a brave little pansy! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually looking forward to having some snow before Christmas, too; it would certainly make my garden look better. Glad to know I'm not the only one who can't keep cyclamens indoors.
I'm the same way with cyclamens. Still, I would love to have one blooming indoors about now!
I admire your progressive attitude about plant euthanasia. I think there are many candidates other than cyclamen, chief among the poinsettias. Happy GBBD!
Thanks be to violas and pansies~They light up a garden in December. It's shades of brown in mine! I've kept plants beyond the compost date~now into the bin they go! Happy GBBD.
The fuschia is so enchanting even if it's one of a few stragglers, When I lived in Aust ralia we had them mostly in baskets so the blooms cascaded over the edges. They were covered head to toe in blooms.Pining for those long lost days and against my better judgement, I tried one this spring but the Kansas heat came so early this year and it looked sickly through the rest of the season. Never again.
