The Golden Afternoon Garden

Symphyotrichums, the ex-asters, in the Nanoprairie
Come into my garden, right now while the sun is warm. While many of the plants here are the same as those grown at Clay and Limestone, the more northerly latitude of Squirrelhaven renders the midday and afternoon sun's rays lovely rather than harsh, casting a golden glow.

Here, in the afternoon, the butterflies dance on the breeze.

Bees fill the air with the sound of their buzzing from bloom to bloom.

Please hurry, for it will not last. These fleeting gilded afternoons of autumn slip by too fast, and end all too soon.

They sure do go too quickly MMD. I wish I could see the northerly afternoon sun in your garden. Would love to have time with you to talk about gardening and life. Thank you for the link love! xxoogail

Aahahhh that autumn sun is so rewarding. Not too hot and it makes the garden glow. Lovely.

Ex-aster is *much* easier than Symphyotricum, which produces a bit of a dis-aster when I try to remember the name. Beautiful pictures, MMD. Looks like your nanoprairie has more going for it than my garden does. And, speaking of dis-asters, the recent wind has finally put down my rose arbor, meaning that I'll have to find my way under the heap of rose prickles to plant the 300 bulbs I somehow ordered. Cheers!

In Italy we still call them aster. Beautiful colors.

Oh so lovely! I really need to get more asters/ex-asters into my garden. They are so beautiful at this time of year. But I seem to have trouble with aster lace bugs, of all things.

I could hardly type this for laughing at all Helen's aster puns. Your asters look gorgeous, MMD. What wonderful glowing colours.

The perfect time of day to enjoy the autumn garden--simply beautiful! Obviously, though, the weather was a little different "up north" than down here. Wednesday and Thursday here in the central part of the state were rainy, very windy, and just downright nasty. Even the bees and butterflies were hiding out. Yesterday morning we had our first real frost--did you also?

Beautiful garden glow! I spent about an hour out in the garden this afternoon just playing around with my camera. The light of autumn is magical. Great photos!

Scrumptious photos, last photo esp. - wish a bluebird would fly into my garden someday soon.

Lovely photos of the fall garden! I just love the way the sun shines such a shadowy light at this time of year. It really does make everything shine with a golden hue.

Beautiful photos...I just love when the Eupatorium seed heads get full and ripe...and the slightest breeze sets them off :-)

These 'gilded afternoons' are truly a gift. Love your butterfly in motion.

Gail - thanks for being such an inspiration.

Lisa - I hope you're enjoying them.

Helen - ack! Those winds sure are wicked.

Jean - I've never heard of aster lace bugs. I have to fight cucumber beetles instead. Stupid bugs.

Victoria - I wish I were as witty these days as Helen.

Rose - there've been a couple of frosts, but most of the garden is still protected by trees with leaves. The cold mornings make the warm afternoons that much more precious.

PlantsPostings - this autumn light is such a relief after the harsh glare of summer.

Cyndy - I'd send you some of mine if they didn't die when divided.

Thanks, Sage Butterfly. It's the gold before the cold.

Scott Weber - the Eupatorium seeds have been knocked off more than blown off this year by my clumsiness. Stuck to my coat, my hat, my hair...

Layanee - the butterfly in motion was a mistake I decided was artistic.

Robbie - thanks for visiting!
