| the newest Phlox paniculata at Squirrelhaven, 'Shockwave' |
August finds the floral interest shifted to the Nanoprairie where the Lycoris squamigera has opened just in time to join its partners Phlox paniculata 'David' and Echinacea purpurea.
I know I said I was going to pull out that Phlox and replace it with a colored one because I can't stand the faded blooms. My foot problems really slowed me down during the spring, and only now can I use a shovel properly without foot pain. 'David' will be removed. Eventually.
Here's more of the Nanoprairie.

Love seeing Phlox Shockwave, just put it in. I also put in Blue Sunrise Geranium this year and I really like its delicacy. What do you think of Bob's Blunder? I looked for it but could not find it locally.

I used to think the Lycoris wasn't hardy here, but after seeing it here and May Dreams Gardens, I think I will have to give it a try. I tried to start that same allium from seed and didn't germinate one! Isn't it funny how what is easy in one garden is so difficult in another?
Eileen - 'Bob's Blunder' is the best. The Flower Factory in Stoughton, WI has it, and The Growing Place in Naperville & Aurora also carry it.
What a floriferous garden! I didn't know that allium cernum was in any danger. I planted some bulbs last fall, and just found them blooming in the weeds yesterday. I am looking forward to a bigger clump next year. They are so pretty.
Your garden is full of blooms. I love the black lily. What a beauty and I see that the Tiger Swallowtail agrees. Happy GBBD and Congrats on your 5th year.
Happy 5th! What is the traditional gift? Wood? Perhaps you need a new shrub or tree to celebrate? What lovely Phlox, but alas, poor David, we knew him well...
Lovely blooms! And, happy 5th for you and your blog.
My sedum 'Purple Emperor' has never made it to the bloom stage because our summers have been too hot. I gave it some shade this year, but it still hasn't bloomed. :-(
Happy Blogaversary! It was so perfect to feature your phlox...so beautiful! And thanks for the list of plants...excellent! Happy GBBD!
Barb, I love phlox and can't imagine not having it the garden! I might have to get more~several you've shown are gorgeous. Happy Blogaversary~I am SO glad you started blogging. gail
I just can't seem to do phlox here... but I MUST get some of those gorgeous lilies! (Nice of that pretty butterfly to pose for you there, by the way--great picture. :) Happy blogiversary, and happy GBBD!
Gorgeous! I can't wait until my plants are as mature as yours!
My garden is green with envy; no, literally, green... very few blooms in it this bloomsday. Must get 'Bob's Blunder' for obvious reasons. Happy blogiversary!
I love phlox! Thank you for the beautiful photos. I don't usually count it as one of my favorites until it's in bloom and it's just so pretty. Mine have been blooming for quite some time now and I am looking for a few more to add to the two I have right now.
Gorgeous post, as always! Love 'Black Beauty', it's just finishing up in my garden as well (maybe a week or so of blooms left). I love your "nanoprairie"...it looks so lovely and informal. I've tried that Sedum and it just does not like my garden, for some reason, too bad...it was so pretty :-(
