Picture This: Fall on a Flatbed

Anemone x hybrida 'Party Dress,' surrounded by leaves of Heuchera 'Citronelle,' blooms of  Symphyotrichum novae-angliae, Diascia, and Callibrachoa, and leaves of Hosta 'June' and Oxalis
Gardening Gone Wild's Picture This photo contest this month is for scanned images of plants, as popularized by judge Craig Cramer of Ellis Hollow. While I love the look of scanned images, don't expect to see any more from me for a very long time (if ever). I'm too much of a perfectionist, and it was tedious and time consuming in the extreme to edit out all the pollen that ended up in the images from the flowers. I might scan leaves and other less messy things, but flowers are too much trouble.  The ex-asters were the worst offenders.

Here are the other scans I made.

Fruits and vegetables are also less messy than flowers, so make acceptable subjects.

yellow and 'Chocolate Beauty' sweet peppers, with jalapeno peppers, asters and goldenrod

B, That's lovely !I like it a lot and the Chocolate beauty pepper photo is a lot of fun! I was comparing my flea beetle battered heuchera leaves to yours! What a photo that would make! gail

Ooh, I love the way that goldenrod looks, MMD! All look worthy of a prize to me. Good luck with the contest! :-)

That is a beautiful image!
The flatbed gives them a very different quality than a photo. It looks more like a very realistic illustration.

Your scans are very creative. I think you chose the best for the contest. Good Luck.

You are a true artist. I love them all.

I'm sorry to hear that you won't be doing any more...I think they are beautiful!

That second image is surreal and ethereal. I'm impressed my friend. Those apples and flowers look like they're floating in water. If it were darker, it would be most Halloween-esque.~~Dee

I appreciate that you're always ready to rise to the occasion and the challenge. Your photos turned out Just Fine... hopefully you'll fare well in the contest! :-)

I think of your sculpture from time-to-time... You are definitely having fun! Happy Autumn!

I love that last one with the goldenrod and peppers! Very fall-esque. I'm sure it was tough to do, but they all came out really well!

Gail - I'm so glad I don't have your flea beetle problem. Fighting with the cucumber beetles is bad enough.

Frances - the goldenrod was almost as bad as the asters for pollen mess. It did make for a nice contrasting shape.

fer- that's a good way to describe them.

Thanks, Lisa. I was torn between the one I chose and the peppers.

Thanks, Layanee!

CG - I may do some with just foliage, or maybe flowers that don't drop as much pollen. Maybe.

Dee - the second one was an experiment, which turned out differently than I thought it would, but still interesting.

Shady - fun, fun, fun.

ROR - thanks. After all that work, I must print them out as soon as I get more ink for the printer.

Grace - thanks!

Ester - it is a strange idea, but talented people have done some really cool things with a scanner.

Thanks, Rose!

Ilona - they do give a new perspective, which, I guess, is what art is supposed to do.

Oh, no, what did you do to your hand?!! I have an injured arm, too! Yikes, we gardeners do abuse our bodies, don't we?!
Anyway, beautiful scans! I agree, it is tedious creativity. I found that the Muhly grass plumes made a huge mess and instead of looking lovely on the scan, just made it look messy. Live and learn. I'm going to keep experimenting.

Oh, I surely discovered what you mean about the pollen!!! You sure can do some lovely scans though. I just did my first ones the past two days and it was time consuming! Hope to see more by you in the future! (Maybe you will change your mind). :)

Hey MMD,
Definitely a favorite color combination of mine... lavender and green. I'm glad you joined in even though you had to deal with pollen. The peppers make an interesting arrangement... never would have thought of it.
