Hydrangea macrophylla 'Penny Mac' provides a dramatic example.

I don't like to use the sprinkler, but it's been so dry, I feared that trees and shrubs would enter dormancy dessicated, which can lead to premature death.
Finally, I can pull weeds again. I even planted all 100 of the Crocus tommasinianus I ordered this fall. There's more rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow, so I'm optimistic that the dry pattern has finally broken.

I am just green with envy of your rain. I have been out with the hose nearly every day trying to get things watered before winter sets in. I am about to give up. I am happy for you and your garden.
Hooray for rain!!
I giggled at the idea of a mophead hydrangea being a drama queen. That's for sure. :) Glad you got rain.~~Dee
Oh, I am so glad that prima donna is happy now. Or is it dona? Hmmmm. .. At any rate, good the rain has come.
It's been wonderful, hasn't it? I'm so happy!
happiness is rain! We got a quarter inch last night and I am celebrating. I still have a few bulbs to plant.
I'm celebrating with you, MMD! We didn't get as much rain as you this weekend, but it's pouring this morning. I've been planting bulbs, too, and bent my trowel yesterday because the ground was so hard.
My garden was singing in the rain, too! What a wonderful sound. gail
Oh yeh, drama queen is right. Since my Penny Mac has looked like that since spring, it's getting ripped out to make way for another hydrangea I need to transplant. Good for you for getting some rain. We got a little but I would like some more, please. :-)
Delighted you got your rain - made me feel bad about having been moaning about all the rain we've been having, when I want to be out enjoying the autumn colours in bright sunshine! And now the sun is out here, so karma?!
I love your rain gauge! I can't stand it when my plants get dramatic. They get watered.
