Frosty Shake: Frigid Friday Follies

This is how high the snow is now piled up along the street and driveway; the low was -3F/-19C, with a high of 30F/-1C.

After blizzard conditions and an additional foot of snow on Tuesday into Wednesday, the kids were awakened Wednesday by a 4 a.m. earthquake. No, we haven't moved to California. The epicenter of this 3.8 quake was in Pingree Grove, Illinois, in Kane County, which is about 15 miles away. Although VIS and I slept through it, I must have felt it, because I dreamed about a wild party with loud music. While earthquakes in the suburbs of Chicago aren't unheard of (there was one in Lombard, exciting Lombard, back in the '80s), this was a previously unknown fault. Does the excitement never end?

Never a dull moment.

Too crazy! And, Dallas got 9" of snow and Atlanta is to get 5" of snow! Here in NC, we're in the middle of the Virginia/DC storm and these southern storms. Who knows what to expect tonight!

Stay warm and safe!

I'm beginning to wonder if Mother Nature is mad at us! I heard about your quake; glad there wasn't any real damage. We had one about two years ago, and I slept through it, too. I don't even remember dreams of wild parties:)

I read these winter weather stories and watch the news with my head shaking back and forth..

We finally got a decent snowfall, too, but no earthquake (score!). Is VIS very important spouse? Also, I winter sowed your Ruellia seeds a while back... but of course no sprouts yet (though the media is on standby). :)

I'm sure we didn't feel it here, either. But I did awaken about that time of morning... Suppose it's due to the weight of all your snow? ha. Have a great weekend!

Wow, you were pretty close to it. People ask me if I was frightened. It all happened too fast. By the time I had identified the shaking, it was over.

Having an earthquake where they do not usually occur is strange. We had a 5 something magnitude earthquake last year here in central Illinois. I would imagine you guys probably felt it up there. It is interesting listening to you talk about the blizzard and then this earthquake because just the other day I heard on the radio that the midwest united states has more catastrophic natural disasters than anywhere else in North America Which I don't find hard to believe; freezing weather, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, droughts... we kind of get everything.

It definitely has been wild around here lately! I slept through the earthquake too.

Cyndy- I hope we don't get the full treatment, that would include a wicked ice storm like they were getting in Austin.

Rosemary - we may have more snow than Canada, but Maryland has more snow than we do.

Lisa - really, who ever said winter was boring?

Cameron - you're really nhaving a heck of a winter.

Rose - try not to take the weather personally, it's just all a part of the wild variety of the world.

Darla - it's not the thing happening around here that cause me wonder, but the snow in places like Dallas & the Florida panhandle.

Monica - huzzah! Michigan finally has snow! I'll bet there are a lot of happy snowmobilers now.

Shady - LOL!

Joey - when spring comes, there will be major rejoicing.

Like Cyndy said - you all have gotten everything this year! But that snow pile, yikes. I can't imagine what that's like (the bit of snow we got this week was fun for us!).

Guess you are with me sleeping through earhquakes. We drove through Kentucky and a I was asleep in the car when it happened.

Sure pretty cold up there my camellias would not like your cold nights.

We have mild earthquakes in Nebraska on occasion. I've never felt one.

I am ready for it to stop snowing. I have to laugh when I read some of the bloggers from warmer climates say how cold they are at 40 and 50 degrees. I would love to have some 40 or 50 degree days!

Hey, look at the bright side: no need for pest control since it's so cold! Just wait until spring rolls around and you have to worry about insect. Although, this past year was fine for me since I started using End All organic bug spray. What pest control methods will you use in spring?

A whole lot of shakin' and a whole lot of snowin' going on at Squirrelhaven. I hope that kind of fun DOES end soon!
