End of the Month View -September09

While I have wanted to join Cindy of From My Corner of Katy with her weekly garden views, I haven't been able to get it together. Helen, The Patient Gardener, has been showing end of the month views of her garden. I think I can manage a once a month post of such views, as I usually take such photos around the beginning of the month anyway. Above is the front mini-prairie. The looming tree, a Cottonwood, has already lost more than half its leaves.
Around back, the view from the patio looking north to the woodland garden.
Standing by the gate into the woodland garden,
and the view back.

Overhead shot from the playset.
Looking back towards the playset this morning.
Yesterday, with the Heptacodium miconioides full of pink bracts.
It's all still pretty green, but that will change rapidly now that the nighttime temperatures have fallen and the sunshine has returned.

It still looks very lush. I'm trying to get an overview of your garden and not sure I envision it right but maybe with these views it will come into focus!

Wow! I feel as though I have a much better picture of your yard and gardens due to this tour. Just beautiful! Love your toad lily! Which variety? My Blue Wonder and Seiryu are as lush and full as yours.

Is it in October that you begin your welding class? :-)

It looks great! It seems everything is winding down slowly and gracefully.

Now that's how a beautiful shade garden is supposed to look! I love it MMD! The sweet alyssum looks wonderful beneath the phlox. Is it phlox? Isn't that cottonwood your spring nemesis! I am so glad you shared these views...its very inspiring! I went to the native plant nursery today~~You would have been in heaven. gail

Beautiful garden views. I especially like the first shot with the asters (gorgeous) and the overhead view from the playset. Really lovely.

Wonderful overviews of your garden MrMcD. I can imagine how nice it would be to sit on your patio and soak up the last rays of the fall sun.

Thank you, MMD, for giving us this tour! Your garden has certainly changed since this spring, and it is looking lush and still full of blooms for October.

Just read your last post--I'm going into panic mode. So much to do, not just gardening, this month. Do you suppose it's too much to ask for as long a fall as we had last year? I think if I had until mid-November again, I might just get most of it done:)

Leslie - I'll try to do better next month with setting it all out. Maybe a drawing?

Shady - the Tricyrtis is 'Tojen.' And yes, I start my welding class in a couple of weeks. I'm very excited.

ROR - things seem to be winding down earlier this year. I think it was all that dryness in September.

Gail - the Cottonwood is my year-round nemesis! The plant towering over the Sweet Alyssum is Symphyotrichum laeve 'Bluebird,' my favorite Aster.

Sweet Bay - thanks!

Helen - thanks for coming up with this great idea.

Karen - I owe the overhead, playset view to Lisa of Greenbow, who climbed on a ladder for photos of her garden.

Lisa - thanks for the idea for the overheads. Actually, to soak up those last rays, I usually sit out front in the afternoon light. Morning is just too busy to sit on the patio.

Laura - the low white flower is Sweet Alyssum, Lobularia maritima, an annual which self-sows.

Rose - you can ask, but don't expect it. Last fall was too perfect.

As nice as the photos are, it's even better because I have actually SEEN your garden. It really does make all the difference. Lovely!

Robin - thanks! Yes, you can figure out pretty much how it looks. That's one of the great things about visiting bloggers' gardens.

The toad lilies look fantastic - having only just bought a couple of these, I can't wait for them to grow bigger and better and aspire to them looking as good as yours.
