I took this photo in May at the library. I had no excuse to post it until Gardening Gone Wild announced flowering trees as the subject of this month's photo contest. One of the criteria the judge will be looking for is "[a]nything fun, novel, wacky or unexpected." These flowers blooming directly from the trunk seem to fit that description, for they made me giggle. I hope you find them as amusing.

Silly Redbud - Picture This Photo Contest

I have seen this on our redbud tree before. I always wondered why it would bloom on its trunk. Good picture.

That habit the redbud has of blooming straight out of the trunk has always amused me too. Have you any idea how many redbud pictures are in this contest? Mine is one too! It is such a great tree.

Apparently for many of us a call for a Flowering Tree meant an excuse to post a redbud photo, Mr McGregor's Daughter! Wacky is always good.
