Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Actual gingerbread cookies made and decorated by me and the girl.

Imagine me sounding like Judy Garland in "Meet Me in St. Louis." I have to imagine it too, as my voice is still a little hoarse from a bad cold. It seems to happen every year in the midst of the busyness and the cookiepalooza that is my family's Christmas. But the tree and house are decorated, the gifts are (mostly) wrapped, the Christmas cards are (finally) in the mail. I can now concentrate on simply having Christmas. I hope that all of you take some time to just be in the moment and experience a bit of peace and joy... and maybe a cookie or two.

Warmest wishes from all of us at Squirrelhaven!

Mmm! Those cookies look wonderful. We will be doing our baking tomorrow, I have to wait until my poll closes to make sure that butter cookies are still the winners. Not that that's the only reason I haven't gotten them made, but it's a convinient reason to use for my procrastination!

Merry Christmas.

Hope those cookies are as tasty as they are pretty! It sounds like a great mother-daughter activity for a snowy winter day. May your Christmas be filled with many such happy moments!

Hi MMD, well done, even in the face of a cold, to make it the best Christmas ever! What good advice to just now live it instead of all the preparing for it. Those are gorgeous cookies! And congrats on winning in the Blotanical why I garden contest too!

Thanks for your compliments & warm wishes, everyone!

Frances - thanks for letting me know I won. I've been so busy that I havent' logged in lately, even though I had read some blogs there when I was at the library yesterday. I must go look now.

Hi MMD,
How courageous to make the gingerbread! I'm skipping that this year (I use Martha Stewart's recipe that is delicious, but a royal pain). I'm only making Spritz Cookie Press cookies and some "Snowballs" (aka: Mexican Wedding Cakes), our favorites and since I'm only making 2 batches, I hope it will be fun this year rather than in years past when I baked for friends, family and neighbors. No time or energy for that this year!

Your tree is lovely and has such a warm glow from outside! I hope you and your family have a warm, wonderful holiday to renew all of you to enter the new year. All our best wishes from our house to yours!

Oh yeah, that Judy Garland song always makes me cry too (hey Annie!)... I have never understood why such a depressing song managed to become a holiday standard.

Are you sick of the oh too regular snows/ice storms yet? WE ARE, lol.

Stay warm, stay close and savor these next few days....

Merry Christmas to you too, MMD! I hope the kids get to sleep early tonight so Santa can come before it gets too late.

Happy Christmas, MMD! Your cookies are an inspiration--my husband baked ours after I mixed them up before I went to the hospital, and he made pies yesterday afternoon to take to my sister's. It's Christmas Day here so I'll just wish you and yours the very best of days.
