Gilty Pleasure

I have a confession to make. I have an artificial tree, a fake, an out-of-a-box special. The environmentally responsible thing is to have a fresh cut tree or, better yet, a live tree. Neither of those two options is available to me. I am allergic to mold, and my allergist has advised me against having a real tree or real evergreen wreath in my home. Also, I don't know what I'd do with a live tree after Christmas. It's not like I have a back 40 acres to plunk it into. So, I'm stuck with a fake tree. At least the kids can put it up by themselves.

It's okay. I do, too.

Once in a while we get a real one... but sometimes it's just easier to have an artificial tree. (You don't have to water it and it can stay until March if you want!) ;-)

Hi there, Lisa :-D

Sorry to hear you have allergies. You know, for some reason I have a bigger problem with using a real tree! My artifical ones have lasted for years and so have the pines in my garden :-)

This year, unusually for me, I have put lights on the pine tree beside my pond - it looks great and the birds don't seem to mind :-D

oh, I didn't know one was better than the other, kind of like the old 'Paper or Plastic?' question. We have an artificial one. I need to make some swags with real evergreens to get that lovely smell in the house.

Mom and I too are allergic to whatever mold grows on evergreens brought indoors, so I can sympathize. Makes it tough to go to restaurants, homes, and other places that have live trees and other greens--not only in December, but for however long they keep them up into January.

I have an artificial tree, but I'm still in those years where you judge a year by how many times the Christmas tree hits the floor. The record so far is five, set the year the twins turned two, imagine that!

Shady Gardener - I don't think I could stand to look at a Christmas tree 'til March.
Hi, Shirl! I wish I had a Christmas tree outside to put lights on. I'll bet yours is a magical sight.
Muum - the main reason people are urged not to get an artificial tree is that petroleum products are used in its manufacture. So if you have a really old fake tree, the damage is already done & you may as well enjoy it.
Nan Ondra - I'm OK for an afternoon around a real tree, as long as I don't have to sleep in the same house as 1. Of course I have to keep up on my mold injections.
Christine, if it's not the kids, its cats climbing on the tree! One year a friend hung their artificial tree upside down from the ceiling to keep it out of the clutches of their terrible 2s triplets.
