This photo shows my front garden at my former house with my then-housemates. The little mutt on the left was named Coco. The Borzoi, who thought she was a lap dog, was Oaklara's Natasha Fatal. Sadly, they have both since passed on. The garden was in the front yard because the dogs had the backyard to themselves. From the perspective of 14 years distance, it is clear that the shape of the bed was too curvy and contrived. Also, there was too much emphasis on flowers. It also lacked structure and a focal point.
Last year I drove past the old house for the first time since moving. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the front garden remains, albeit with a more sensible outline.

Awww... I have a big mutt named Coco (half Alaskan Malamute, half Labrador Retriever and from a 10-puppy "oops" litter) who has markings like your little mutt Coco but is more the size of your Borzoi. She, too, thinks she is a lap dog. (And pretty garden picture or no, she would never sit so still without someone holding her on a leash--she's a runner!)
This is a great thing, to have these old pictures. Thank you for sharing them.
The trick to the photo is that the dogs were on a "Sit/Stay" command after which they would get a biscuit. Borzois are also runners, but that 1 was a chow hound. I trained her to associate being with me with food ("Come" meant "come here & eat this"). This training works well with anorexic breeds such as the sighthounds, but I wouldn't recommend it for a lab.
Love the old photo, what a treasure! I had a dog named Coco once also, a Chihuahua.
Dogs make gardens complete.
Dogs also keep away deer (to a certain extent) & rabbits. There's just something about the name "Coco" that is so great for a dog, or a fashion designer.
